San Diego Teacher Residency Program Year 2
Employment, Capstone, M.Ed. in Teaching and Learning
During the 2nd year of the San Diego Teacher Residency, instructors focus on support for residents as they establish their teaching careers and residents focus on teacher-driven problem-solving. This is done through the practice of lesson study.
The Lesson Study cycle can be divided into four parts: 1) Research and Clarify, 2) Anticipate and Plan, 3) Conducting the Lesson, and 4) Reflect and Share! The Lesson Study is teacher professional development and originated from Japan.
In cycles of Lesson Study, educators and researchers collaborate on, research, and plan a lesson event around a new lesson structure, task, or pedagogical move, and examine the impact on students. The 2nd year is split into three trimesters. In each trimester, 5-6 host teachers post a wondering around their practice. Hosts are then placed into teams of 3-4 people who share similar curiosities.
