When? Fall 2022 - Spring 2023
How do the parts affect the whole? Where do we see chemistry in the real world? How does food tell a story? When preparing for a Farmers' Market - whether you're preparing foods or artisanal soaps - you are a chemist! You are experimenting with different types of compounds (acids, bases, fats, etc.) in specific ratios and, through their reaction, hoping to produce the desired good! This project focuses on how chemistry can manifest in our everyday lives and how, through proportional reasoning and an understanding of the division of fractions, we can scale a recipe up or down accurately to preserve the relationship between the ingredients.
